Adolf’s Meat Recall News
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported that approximately 224 pounds of assorted meat of Adolf’s Meat Products have been recalled. The Hartford, Conn. establishment is recalling the meats, which include kielbasa, ham, bacon, pork loins, and liverwurst due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. FSIS has classified this recall as Class I, meaning “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that there are 1,591 cases of foodborne listeriosis, resulting in 255 deaths, in the U.S. each year. Newborns, pregnant women, older adults, and those individuals with weakened immune systems are at greatest risk for developing listeriosis. Although less common, individuals not belonging to one of these high risk groups can also contract listeriosis.
Listeriosis symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the central nervous system, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions. Adolf’s Meat Recall Information
The Adolf’s Meat Recall affects the only the following items:
• 14-lb. of Smoked Kielbasa
• 100-lb. of Hams
• 40-lb. of Canadian Bacon
• 30-lb. of Bone-In Pork Loins
• 50-lb. of Liverwurst
The smoked kielbasa products bear establishment number “EST. 34651” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The other products do not have labels as they were sold from behind a deli counter.
The possibly contaminated products were produced on Oct. 20, 2015. All recalled products were sold at the company’s store, Adolf’s Meat & Sausage Kitchen, located in Hartford, Connecticut.
