June 22, 2020: Hy-Vee Issues Recall for Bagged Salad Product Due to Possible Cyclospora Contamination

Hy-Vee Bagged Salad Recall News – Hy-Vee, Inc., based in West Des Moines, IA, has issued a recall for its 12oz. Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad product throughout its eight-state region due to a potential Cyclospora contamination linked to the ongoing multi-state bagged salad Cyclospora outbreak.

Hy-Vee Bagged Salad Recall Information

On June 22, 2020, Hy-Vee announced a recall for its 12oz Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad product across an eight-state region.  The product manufacturer, Fresh Express, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) have been investigating a Cyclospora contamination, and subsequent outbreak, linked to bagged salad in the upper-Midwest section of the United State.

Hy-Vee’s recall of bagged salad is limited to its 12oz. Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad, all UPC’s, and expiration dates.  The affected product was distributed to Hy-Vee grocery stores across its eight-state region of:

  • Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin

Consumers who purchased this product should discard it or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund.

Cyclospora Information

Per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Cyclospora infects the small intestine (bowel) and usually causes watery diarrhea, with frequent, sometimes explosive, bowel movements. Other common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, bloating, increased gas, nausea, and fatigue.  Vomiting, body aches, headache, fever, and other flu-like symptoms may be noted.
