Food Safety Blueprint News – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a blueprint for food safety of the future, called “New Era for Smarter Food Safety.”

On July 13, 2020, the FDA issued an outline for food safety guidelines going forward. Their new blueprint revolves around the following four core elements:
- Tech-enabled Traceability
- Smarter Tools and Approaches for Prevention and Outbreak Response
- New Business Models and Retail Modernization
- Food Safety Culture
The FDA declares that the aforementioned core elements for food safety are the foundational pillars of the New Era of Smarter Food Safety. A more digital, traceable food system can be achieved through these elements working together.
Per the FDA’s New Era of Smarter Food Safety blueprint,
This document represents achievable goals to enhance traceability, improve predictive analytics, respond more rapidly to outbreaks, address new business models, reduce contamination of food, and foster the development of a food safety culture. It outlines a partnership between government, industry and public health advocates based on a commitment to create a more modern approach to food safety. There is an opportunity to drive the changes needed to create a digital and safer food system. We’re in this together.
