Sprouters Northwest announced an expansion of the recall they had placed last week (found below) to include additional products.  The recalled product list now includes: 3-Bean Munchie, Alfalfa, Bean, Broccoli, Brocco Sandwich sprouts, Clover, Deli, Spicy; Wheatgrass and Pea Shoots.  These recalled products are listed under Sprouters Northwest, Lifeforce, and other basic brand names.  More details of the recall can be found here http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm338741.htm .

ORIGINAL RECALL January 31: Multiple Varieties Of Sprouts Taken Out Of Market Due To Health Threat On January 29, 2013, Sprouters Northwest from Kent, WA recalled almost 2000 pounds of sprouts because there is evidence that lead to believe some of the companies stock of sprouts was infected with the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes.  The varieties that were recalled were: Clover Sprouts, Alfalfa Sprouts, Brocco Sandwich Sprouts, and Spicy Sprouts.  These recalled sprouts were distributed to Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and British Colombia (Canada) between January 10th and January 18th.  According to the FDA, each package of sprouts was labeled with a “Best by Date” of January 26th, with the exception of the Alfalfa Sprouts which expired on January 31st.

Initial symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes may include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions.

On February 6th GoldCoast Salads, based in Naples, Florida placed a recall of their Blue Crab Spread because of testing positive for the bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes. 

January 31, 2013: Back To Back Recalls From Whole Foods Infected Salmon
On January 29th, Whole Foods Market placed their second recall in less than a week on Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon due to a contamination from Listeria monocytogenes.
