The Estrella Family Creamery in Montesano, Washington has been shut down by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  This occurred after the company refused to comply with a request by the FDA to voluntarily recall its cheese.  The cheeses are suspected of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Federal Marshals seized the product from the family-owned company that is known for making artisan cheeses.  Washington state officials stated that there have been several other instances of voluntary recalls within the past year after discovering Listeria contaminated cheeses located in aging caves on the property.
