The infections have been reported in 18 states since early April. Those states include: AK, CA, CO, GA, IL, KY, MA, MN, MO, NC, OK, OR, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WA.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture Laboratory reports finding the outbreak strain in an unopened package of Marie Callender’s Cheesy Chicken and Rice single serve frozen entrée.

On June 17, 2010, ConAgra Foods, which owns the Marie Callender’s brand, announced a recall of all Marie Callender’s brand Cheesy Chicken and Rice single-serve frozen entrees, regardless of production date. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS) issued a list of retailers involved in the recall, which includes 50 national, regional, and state-wide chains.

The CDC reports that among those for whom information is available about when symptoms started, illnesses began between April 5, 2010 and June 3, 2010.

The CDC is collaborating with public health officials in many states as well as the USDA/FSIS and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate the outbreak and identify additional cases of illness that may be part of the outbreak.
