October 22, 2009: Breyers Recalls Ice Cream Due To Undeclared Allergen

Mispackaged tubs of ice cream have prompted Breyers to announce a recall.

Some of the containers may have lids that state it is a container of Breyers® All Natural Cookies & Cream.  However, the tubs state that it is a container of Breyers® All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip.  The tubs may contain Breyers® All Natural Cookies & Cream.  The Breyers® All Natural Cookies & Cream ice cream contains wheat.  The Breyers® All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip tub does not contain wheat and does not have wheat listed as an ingredient.  Wheat is a known allergen which may cause severe reactions. 

The information provided by Breyers regarding the recalled items is as follows.  Images of the packaging can be seen here:  Product Labels 

  • 1.5-quart (1.41L) paperboard tubs marked with UPC # 077567254245 located on the side of the tub and in combination with "Best If Used By" dates of FEB1711GH, FEB1811GH and FEB1911GH located on the bottom of the tub. 
  • The mispackaged ice cream product was distributed in Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Trinidad and Virginia through retail stores in these locations and adjoining areas.

August 30, 2010: Ground Beef Recalled For Possible E. coli Contamination
On August 28, Cargill Meat Solutions, a Wyalusing, PA company, recalled 8,500 pounds of ground beef products due to possible E. coli contamination. The recall comes after the U.S. Department of Agriculture linked the ground beef to three instances of illness in New York and Maine. None of those who were sickened required hospitalization.

August 23, 2010: Salmonella Egg Outbreak: Another Farm Announces Massive Recall
On August 20, an additional Iowa company, Hillandale Farms, announced it was recalling 170 million eggs, bringing the total number of eggs recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination to 550 million. The recalled eggs have been implicated in an outbreak of Salmonella enteritis associated with 1,300 illnesses nation-wide.

August 19, 2010: Recalled Eggs Linked To Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

At least 380 million eggs have been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. On August 13, Wright County Egg recalled 228 million eggs sold since mid-May. The recall has recently been expanded to include an additional 152 million eggs. The potentially contaminated eggs have reportedly been distributed to 17 states.
