June 4, 2009: Duck and Sausage Recalled Due To Potential Listeria Contamination

Schaller Manufacturing Corp., Long Island City, New York, has recalled approximately 564 pounds of duck leg confit and kolbase sausage, because the products may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes.    ...

The following duck and sausage products are subject to recall: 

  • 2.5-pound approximate-weight vacuum packages, 6 legs per package, of "D'ARTAGNAN TRADITIONAL DUCK LEG CONFIT." Each package bears a "USE/OR/FREEZE BY" date of "08/07/09" and establishment number "P-5374" inside the USDA mark of inspection. 
  • 2.5-pound approximate-weight vacuum packages of "Schaller & Weber HUNGARIAN BRAND KOLBASE." Each package bears a date code of "MFG. 005159" and establishment number "EST. 5374" inside the USDA mark of inspection. 

The recalled meats were produced on May 13, 2009. 

The duck products were sent to distributors and restaurants in Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

The sausage products were sent to distributors and restaurants in New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia and the company's retail store in New York City.
 

The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, can cause a fatal infection known as listeriosis. Those at risk for complications due to listeriosis are the elderly, immunocompromised, infants, and pregnant women and their fetuses.

August 30, 2010: Ground Beef Recalled For Possible E. coli Contamination
On August 28, Cargill Meat Solutions, a Wyalusing, PA company, recalled 8,500 pounds of ground beef products due to possible E. coli contamination. The recall comes after the U.S. Department of Agriculture linked the ground beef to three instances of illness in New York and Maine. None of those who were sickened required hospitalization.

August 23, 2010: Salmonella Egg Outbreak: Another Farm Announces Massive Recall
On August 20, an additional Iowa company, Hillandale Farms, announced it was recalling 170 million eggs, bringing the total number of eggs recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination to 550 million. The recalled eggs have been implicated in an outbreak of Salmonella enteritis associated with 1,300 illnesses nation-wide.

August 19, 2010: Recalled Eggs Linked To Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak

At least 380 million eggs have been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. On August 13, Wright County Egg recalled 228 million eggs sold since mid-May. The recall has recently been expanded to include an additional 152 million eggs. The potentially contaminated eggs have reportedly been distributed to 17 states.
