The Fond du Lac school district has informed parents of the food poisoning outbreak, and the school is being cleaned and disinfected.

According to the school district, both students and staff have been victims of the food poisoning outbreak. The Fond du Lac County Health Department is investigating a larger than average number of cases of shigellosis there over the past three months.

Shigellosis is most typically characterized by diarrhea (often bloody), fever, and stomach cramps, beginning a day or two after eating food contaminated by Shigella. The elderly and young children may be more likely to develop severe diarrhea, eventually requiring hospitalization.
